KOPGT is a farmer's organisation of palm oil out growers. It is the leading and only primary producer of palm oil, fresh fruit bunches (FFBs) in Uganda located in Kalangala, the organisation currently has over 1610 small holder farmers with a total of 3,863 hectares under oil palm cultivation.
The palm oil project is a GOU initiative with funding from IFAD that expires in 2018.

In the project the Trust farmers are to be funded by GOU/IFAD through VODP for 5 years only after which all farm maintenance costs required shall be borne by the farmer through income earned from the sale of fresh fruit bunches (FFBs). Currently the Trust has over 400 farmers who have graduated to that level; they are no longer eligible for funding under the IFAD/GOU vegetable oil development project.

As a sustainability strategy and away to provide alternative source of funding for the mature commercial farmers who do not eligible for IFAD/GOU support, KOPGT is working with Uganda Development Bank ltd to finance commercial oil palm farmers.
